12/01/99 Of course, comments taken out of context can be more memorable that carefully considered phrases. My girlfriend and I overheard a woman on the street say this line, "Whatever, as long as it makes me happy." Kind of a Valley Girl accent on "whatever," very whiny. We recite this line to each other every once in a while. It has been four years now that we have been repeating this line. By teaching this phrase to someone younger than ourselves it may continue to be repeated well after we are dead and gone. Even our most casual utterances stand to have a much greater life span than we could ever hope for ourselves.
