There are lots of divisions amongst people based on perspective. Generally, these divisions are pretty simple. Take Sport Utility Vehicles, as an example. Some people like these things and pay a lot of money to own them. Other people feel that driving an oversized, expensive, gas-guzzling death mobile is not an acceptable way to behave in an environment where you are not the only goddamn living creature ...like on the planet Earth, for instance. (It might be obvious what my perspective is on this issue.) Topics like this are highly polarized. There are very few possible opinions on the issue (three, if you count "no opinion" as an opinion) and those opinions have great contrast.
Perspective is important in smaller social settings, as well. Humans are terrible at communication and people can wind up with radically different understandings of a situation even when they are all sitting in the same room.
